Guiding principles and plans
The AE2 Commemorative Foundation Ltd (AE2CF) was founded in order to achieve a number of Objectives. These objectives are underpinned by the organisation's Mission and Vision. Additional Strategic objectives 2010–15 have also been developed.
Objectives
To preserve, protect and promote HMAS AE2.
- Preservation: Corrosion will cause further deterioration of the hull unless cathodic protection measures are implemented.
- Protection: Damage sustained from trawling and ship anchors can be prevented through the installation of a UW barrier. Measures could be included in this system to warn of unauthorised diving or plunder.
- Promotion: A public education program centred on Australian schools; in Turkey, the program will jointly promote the story of HMAS AE2's adversary in battle: the Ottoman torpedo boat Sultan Hissar (Sultanhisar).
Mission
Working within the Australian, Turkish and UK communities, our mission is to be the principal organisation for all concerned with HMAS AE2 by providing leadership, undertaking research, and developing and sharing knowledge.
Vision
Our vision is that by 30 April 2015, HMAS AE2 has been preserved, is protected and has assumed its rightful place in the Gallipoli legend. Interpretative displays will have been established in Turkey and Australia for the benefit of both nations.

Strategic objectives 2010–15
- Develop options for and implement selected measures for the in situ preservation and protection of HMAS AE2
- Install commemorative plaques at significant sites in the HMAS AE2’s history including Garden Island, Albany and Çanakkale, the latter to be unveiled during the Anzac Day ceremony in 2010
- Launch the AE2 The Silent Anzac website
- Develop and launch an education program
- Secure the Foundation’s ongoing funding needs.
